C. A. Storey's Persian Literature, A Bio-bibliographical Survey is the lifework of a meticulous and dedicated scholar and its hitherto published sections have proved an indispensable reference work for Persian studies. Its first volume, covering Qur'anic Literature, History and Biography, was published in five fascicules between 1927 and 1953 and was followed in 1958 by the first fascicule of Volume II, devoted to Mathematics, Weights and Measures, Astronomy and Astrology and Geography.
1 The contents of a number of these cards were re-copied on larger sheets of paper, in part by Storey himself, in part by Dr Shepherd, who has also compiled a very useful alphabetical card-index to these sheets.
2 His nisbah refers to the town now known as Garpāyagān, formerly Garpādhagān, arabicised as Jarbādhaqān “bi l-fatḥ” (Yāqūt, Mu'jam II 42). As Sprenger already pointed out, the date given by TaqI Kāshī for his death (665/1266–7) is a good deal too late. 4 Noted by Storey with a question mark. I have examined this manuscript, the account of which in Codrington's catalogue is rather unsatisfactory, and ascertained that it is indeed the same dīwān as that described in Rieu, Suppt. no. 234, though the poems are in a different order.
5 vulgo “Barzū-nāmah”. The name of the hero is of course identical with the well-known Sasanian name Burzōy, for which see Ph.
