Evaluation of some neem products as feeding deterrents against the larvae of cabbage butterfly, Pieris Brassicae L.

Abstract

Feeding deterrency tests by leaf disc dipping method revealed AZT-VR/K extract of azadirachtin as the most potent antifeedant against cabbage butterfly, Pieris brassicae L. larvae. The leaf damage on treatment with the extract (at 3, 2 and 1%) was minimum and ranged between 4.9 and 16.3 % as compared to 98 % in untreated check. High level of feeding deterrency was exhibited at all the concentrations of AZT-VR/K, while in neemark (at 1%) and neem oil (at 2 and 1%), the deterrent effects declined considerably on their decreased concentrations.

Résumé

Des tests d'effet dissuassif par la méthode d'immersion de disques foliaires ont démontré que l'extrait d'azadirachitine AZT-VR/K était l'agent dissuasif le plus efficace centre les larves de Pieris brassicae L.

Les dégradations foliaires après traitement avec l'extrait (aux taux respectifs de 3, 2 et de 1%) sont réduites au minimum et s'échelonnent entre 4, 9 et 16, 3 comparés à 98% pour le témoin non traité.

Le haute niveau d'efficacité dissuasive est démontré à toutes les concentrations d'AZT-VR/K, alors qu'avec l'utilisation d'écorce de neem (Azadirachta indica) (à 1 %) ou d'huile de neem (à 2 et 1%), l'effet dissuasif décroît considérablement lorsque les concentrations diminuent.
