EPA-1349 – From Psychiatrization to Neglect of Psychiatric Issues in Society

Abstract

The attitude of society toward psychiatric issues varies in many shades in the continuum between two extremities: psychiatrization and neglect of psychiatric problems. Factors influence on development of social-psychiatric relationship closer to one or other mentioned extremities are numerous and they are categorized in personal, psychiatric, social groups etc. The enormous role of psychiatry in moder society of narcistic culture form the concept of psychiatrization of society including many other aspects like economical, even political. Neglecting of psychiatric issues is connected to migrations, homelessness, culture, tradition, stigma etc. In that context we are going to present a case report of young woman with undiagnosed psychiatric disease hospitalized in Department of surgery for extreme ulcers died later from the sepsa. In conclusion, each of psychiatrists, psychiatric services and social institutions should influence on the suptile balance between extreme views building the right and strong social attitudes toward psychiatric questions in all social levels by active engagement in the field.
