Fracaso en la identificación clínica de un subgrupo de esquizofrénicos varones nacidos en invierno

Resumen

Se estudió la distribución según su mes de nacimiento de 282 y 224 pacientes esquizofrénicos de acuerdo con los Criterios Diagnósticos para la Investigación (RDC) y el DSM III-R, respectivamente. Se confirmó la mayor tasa de nacimiento en invierno-primavera, con un máximo de enero a marzo. Se compararon los esquizofrénicos nacidos en invierno y en verano. No se encontraron diferencias convincentes con respecto a un conjunto mayor de variables demográficas, psicosociales y clínicas en comparaciones univariadas, ni conseguimos separar e identificar un subgrupo especial de esquizofrenia nacido en invierno utilizando el método de análisis cluster. Se obtuvieron resultados negativos a pesar del hecho de que muchas de las variables incluidas reflejaban el curso de la enfermedad y el grado de cronicidad. O bien el conjunto de variables que utilizamos no ha sido lo bastante “correcto”, o bien la separación de un subgrupo nacido en invierno no es posible clínicamente.
