* Although it is our custom in this section to have mainly specially-written reports, duly signed by their Authors, on pertinent past events, we are publishing in preference in this instance the following authoritative account cum warning which was ‘agreed to by over 160 physicians and scientists attending’ this event and comprizing the vast majority of its nearly 200 participants. We have already published (on page 114 of our preceding issue) a ‘Summary of Unquantified Effects of Nuclear War on The Biosphere’, by Dean Arthur H. Westing, who was chairman of one of the same Congress's most pertinent Working Groups and an active participant throughout. The ‘over 160’ comprized the vast majority of the nearly 200 participants of the event, and the following document, edited only to conform to our set style of punctuation etc., is their ‘Statement to the Participants in the Second Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly Devoted to Disarmament’ that has since ended—but not, we hope, without duly noting the terrifyingly horrific thermonuclear possibilities which, with the world in its present condition and foreseeable future state, it may prove difficult indeed to avoid.—Ed.
