Two new Primulina species with yellow flowers, Primulina versicolor F.Wen, B.Pan & B.M.Wang and P. alutacea F.Wen, B.Pan & B.M.Wang (Gesneriaceae), from Guangdong, China are described and illustrated.

A new species, Oocephalus pubescens A.Soares & Harley, from Chapada dos Veadeiros, Goiás, Brazil, is described and illustrated. The characteristics that distinguish it from a similar taxon, Oocephalus foliosus, are listed, and comments on its distribution and an occurrence map are provided.

This study describes the structure of the arboreal plant community in a cerradão fragment located at the Serra de Caldas Novas State Park, Goiás, central Brazil. It also compares the collected data with information from 10 other cerradão sites on dystrophic and mesotrophic soils. All trees of 4.77 cm or more diameter at breast height, in twenty-five 20 m × 20 m plots, were surveyed. Soil samples were analysed to determine the availability of nutrients. The vegetation had a discontinuous canopy, with a high density of small and medium-sized trees, and the soil was classified as dystrophic according to nutrient availability. Under ordination using Detrended Correspondence Analysis, species characteristic of the study site, such as Sclerolobium paniculatum and Emmotum nitens, were positioned in the central portion, while cosmopolitan species formed distinct groups, separated along the two axes. The community showed a low level of similarity in comparison to cerradões reported in the literature in other parts of Brazil, having more than 50% similarity only with three geographically close sites.

Two new species of Begonia (Begoniaceae), Begonia ozotothrix and Begonia hekensis, are described from the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. Both species belong to Begonia section Petermannia. Begonia ozotothrix is unusual amongst Asian Begonia in having branched trichomes on the stems, petioles and the abaxial lamina surfaces, and it is unusual amongst species of Begonia section Petermannia in having extremely compressed cymose-subumbellate male partial inflorescences.

The genus Clemensiella (Apocynaceae – Asclepiadoideae) is reported to include two species. Clemensiella mariae, a Philippine endemic, is redescribed, illustrated, and lectotypified. Its chromosome number (2n = 22) is reported for the first time. The recently described Hoya viracensis is synonymised with Clemensiella mariae. Clemensiella omlori is described as a new species from Borneo and Sumatra. The taxonomic relationship of Clemensiella to other genera of tribe Marsdenieae is discussed.

Thirty angiosperm species in 20 families, collected in Nam Kading National Protected Area, are recorded in Laos for the first time. Because the flora of Nam Kading is rich in endemic species, the area represents one of the core sites of plant biodiversity in Laos. To elucidate the plant diversity accurately, further intensive floristic surveys are required.

Gentiana springateana D.Maity sp. nov. (Gentianaceae) is described from the Sikkim Himalaya and placed in G. section Phyllocalyx (Kusn.) T.N.Ho. This new taxon is described and illustrated, and compared morphologically with two related taxa, Gentiana phyllocalyx C.B.Clarke and G. urnula Harry Sm.

A length polymorphism in the trnL/trnF intergenic spacer was used as a marker to determine the mode of chloroplast inheritance in Streptocarpus (Gesneriaceae). Exclusively maternal inheritance was recorded for all the F1 progeny of reciprocal intraspecific crosses between S. primulifolius and a population referred to as S. aff. primulifolius from the Igoda River mouth, Eastern Cape, South Africa, and for interspecific crosses between S. rexii and S. dunnii. A combination of molecular and morphological data was used to clarify the origin of S. aff. primulifolius, which possesses S. rexii-type cpDNA and rDNA, while the morphological data suggest an intermediate position between S. rexii and S. primulifolius. The distribution of S. rexii and S. primulifolius, combined with molecular and morphological data, supports the hypothesis that the S. aff. primulifolius population is a hybrid between S. rexii and S. primulifolius, with S. rexii as the maternal parent, and that substantial molecular but limited morphological introgression into S. primulifolius has taken place.

Facchinia Rchb. (Alsinoideae–Caryophyllaceae), earlier found not to be part of Minuartia s.str., is here revised. The genus contains seven species, one of which has two subspecies. Seven new combinations are made: Facchinia cerastiifolia (Ramond ex DC.) Dillenb. & Kadereit, F. cherlerioides (Sieber) Dillenb. & Kadereit, F. cherlerioides subsp. aretioides (Port. ex J.Gay) Dillenb. & Kadereit, F. grignensis (Rchb.) Dillenb. & Kadereit, F. herniarioides (Rion) Dillenb. & Kadereit, F. rupestris (Scop.) Dillenb. & Kadereit, and F. valentina (Pau) Dillenb. & Kadereit. Keys to Minuartia s.str., the Old World segregate genera of Minuartia s.l., and to the species and subspecies of Facchinia are provided. All taxa are described and mapped, and some are illustrated.

Four new species of Selaginella from Bolivia are described and illustrated: S. alampeta, a species from humid montane forests at 1200–1700 m that is most similar to S. flexuosa; S. arroyoana, a presumably poikilohydric species found on the walls of periodically dry stream beds and in fissures among rocks on Precambrian sandstone massifs at 750–900 m in eastern Bolivia; S. bryophila, an epiphytic species known only from the type collection made among mats of liverworts in humid montane rain forest, and S. chiquitana, from semideciduous forests at 800 m on a Precambrian sandstone massif in southeastern Bolivia.

The second and final part, in which Himalayan taxa in the genera Acronema, Angelica, Chamaesciadium, Chamaesium, Heracleum, Lalldhwojia, Oenanthe, Physospermopsis, Pimpinella, Pleurospermopsis, Pleurospermum, Schulzia, Selinum, Sinocarum, Tordyliopsis and Vicatia are typified with notes on some critical groups (notably Acronema, Selinum and Sinocarum). The new name Cnidium bhutanicum is established. A list of voucher specimens for the whole Flora account is appended.

Identification aids for Cicer (Leguminosae, Cicereae) taxa are presented. A DELTA format dataset was generated for 42 Cicer taxa, on the basis of observation of 214 herbarium specimens and information obtained from the literature. Using the programs key, explore and confor, a dichotomous key, a tabular key, an interactive key and brief descriptions were produced and are presented.

Names of the Old World tribes of Gesneriaceae are updated both nomenclaturally and taxonomically. The most important change is that Epithemateae (Meisn.) C.B. Clarke antedates, and therefore replaces, Klugieae Fritsch. All other suprageneric names known to have been validly published are quoted in synonymy of the appropriate tribe.

Collections of Cyrtandra from the island of Palawan in the Philippines are reviewed. Twelve species are present, of which only five species are already described. A further three species and one variety are described here: C. cleopatrae H.J. Atkins & Cronk sp. nov., C. pulgarensis [Elmer ex] H.J. Atkins & Cronk sp. nov., C. hirtigera H.J. Atkins & Cronk sp. nov., and C. hirtigera var. chlorina H.J. Atkins & Cronk var. nov. Further material of the remaining four taxa (spp. B, C, D, E) will be needed before these can be formally named, although descriptions are provided here. All species are endemic except C. elatostemoides Elmer and C. hypochrysoides Kränzl., which also occur in Borneo and Luzon respectively. The pattern of narrow endemism shown by the cyrtandras of Palawan is commented on briefly.

The terrestrial orchid genus Bhutanthera Renz (subfamily Orchidoideae, tribe Orchideae), comprising five species, three newly described here, is established. A new species, Herminium pygmaeum Renz, and three new varieties, Bulbophyllum cauliflorum Hook.f. var. sikkimense N. Pearce & P. J. Cribb, Cephalanthera erecta (Thunb.) Bl. var. oblanceolata N. Pearce & P. J. Cribb, and Gymnadenia orchidis Lindl. var. pantlingii Renz, are here newly described. Five new combinations and one new name are proposed. Four new sections of Bulbophyllum are also established and their relationships discussed.

The discovery in historic herbaria of an overlooked extinct endemic from the island of St Helena is reported. The first descriptions of St Helena Ebony, Trochetiopsis melanoxylon (Sterculiaceae), and the specimens associated with them in the herbaria of Oxford University (OXF) and the Natural History Museum, London (BM), do not match living and later-collected material, and instead represent an extinct plant. A new name is therefore needed for living St Helena Ebony: Trochetiopsis ebenus Cronk sp. nov. The hybrid between this species and the related T. erythroxylon is also described here: Trochetiopsis × benjamini Cronk hybr. nov. (Sterculiaceae), and chromosome counts of 2n = 40 are reported for the hybrid and both parents for the first time. The re-assessment of the extinct ebony emphasizes the importance of historic herbarium collections for the study of species extinction.

Two cases of poisoning by Lepiota helveola Bres. (Agaricales, Lepiotaceac) in southern Turkey are documented; a total of eleven people died in the two poisonings. The complexity of the taxonomy surrounding L. helveola is discussed, and a key to mentioned species is provided.

Mandevilla (Apocynaceae) is a neotropical genus which is well represented in Brazil. A recent taxonomic revision of the Brazilian species of Mandevilla subgenus Mandevilla included eight new species, one of them from the State of Pernambuco. Nevertheless, while preparing a survey of Apocynaceae from the Brazilian semi-arid region, a new species of the subgenus was recognised. Mandevilla catimbauensis Souza-Silva, Rapini & J.F.Morales is here described and illustrated. It is a twining plant with elliptic, glabrous leaves and hypocrateriform, purple flowers, known only from the Vale do Catimbau National Park, in the State of Pernambuco.

A new species, Bellevalia pelagica C.Brullo, Brullo & Pasta (Hyacinthaceae), growing in the limestone rocks of the Islet of Lampione in the Pelagian Archipelago (Sicily), is described and illustrated. It is a tetraploid with 2n = 16. It belongs to the Bellevalia romana group and shows a close relationship with B. dolichophylla and B. galitensis, both rare endemics from Tunisia.

Berlinia Sol. ex Hook.f. (Leguminosae – Caesalpinioideae) is under investigation with two main goals: (i) to delimit and describe the species, and (ii) to elucidate their relationships. Delimitation and description is now largely completed and is presented in this synopsis. The genus Berlinia is assessed as comprising 18 species. Keys to the species are presented and for each species a brief description, selected synonymy and specimen citations are given. A monograph of Berlinia including a full taxonomic treatment and the results of the phylogenetic investigation will be published later by the senior author.
