We show that polarized endomorphisms of rationally connected threefolds with at worst terminal singularities are equivariantly built up from those on ℚ-Fano threefolds, Gorenstein log del Pezzo surfaces and ℙ1. Similar results are obtained for polarized endomorphisms of uniruled threefolds and fourfolds. As a consequence, we show that every smooth Fano threefold with a polarized endomorphism of degree greater than one is rational.

In this paper, we introduce cell-forms on 𝔐0,n, which are top-dimensional differential forms diverging along the boundary of exactly one cell (connected component) of the real moduli space 𝔐0,n(ℝ). We show that the cell-forms generate the top-dimensional cohomology group of 𝔐0,n, so that there is a natural duality between cells and cell-forms. In the heart of the paper, we determine an explicit basis for the subspace of differential forms which converge along a given cell X. The elements of this basis are called insertion forms; their integrals over X are real numbers, called cell-zeta values, which generate a ℚ-algebra called the cell-zeta algebra. By a result of F. Brown, the cell-zeta algebra is equal to the algebra of multizeta values. The cell-zeta values satisfy a family of simple quadratic relations coming from the geometry of moduli spaces, which leads to a natural definition of a formal version of the cell-zeta algebra, conjecturally isomorphic to the formal multizeta algebra defined by the much-studied double shuffle relations.

We describe a general setting for the definition of semi-infinite cohomology of finite-dimensional graded algebras, and provide an interpretation of such cohomology in terms of derived categories. We apply this interpretation to compute semi-infinite cohomology of some modules over the small quantum group at a root of unity, generalizing an earlier result of Arkhipov (posed as a conjecture by B. Feigin).

We realize the multiplihedron geometrically as the moduli space of stable quilted disks. This generalizes the geometric realization of the associahedron as the moduli space of stable disks. We show that this moduli space is the non-negative real part of a complex moduli space of stable scaled marked curves.

We classify del Pezzo surfaces with quotient singularities and Picard rank one which admit a ℚ-Gorenstein smoothing. These surfaces arise as singular fibres of del Pezzo fibrations in the 3-fold minimal model program and also in moduli problems.

A foliation on a non-singular projective variety is algebraically integrable if all leaves are algebraic subvarieties. A non-singular hypersurface X in a non-singular projective variety M equipped with a symplectic form has a naturally defined foliation, called the characteristic foliation on X. We show that if X is of general type and dim M≥4, then the characteristic foliation on X cannot be algebraically integrable. This is a consequence of a more general result on Iitaka dimensions of certain invertible sheaves associated with algebraically integrable foliations by curves. The latter is proved using the positivity of direct image sheaves associated to families of curves.

We show that the residue at s=0 of the standard intertwining operator attached to a supercuspidal representation π⊗χ of the Levi subgroup GL2(F)×E1 of the quasisplit group SO*6(F) defined by a quadratic extension E/F of p-adic fields is proportional to the pairing of the characters of these representations considered on the graph of the norm map of Kottwitz–Shelstad. Here π is self-dual, and the norm is simply that of Hilbert’s theorem 90. The pairing can be carried over to a pairing between the character on E1 and the character on E× defining the representation of GL2(F) when the central character of the representation is quadratic, but non-trivial, through the character identities of Labesse–Langlands. If the quadratic extension defining the representation on GL2(F) is different from E the residue is then zero. On the other hand when the central character is trivial the residue is never zero. The results agree completely with the theory of twisted endoscopy and L-functions and determines fully the reducibility of corresponding induced representations for all s.

Let G be a reductive p-adic group. Given a compact-mod-center maximal torus S⊂G and sufficiently regular character χ of S, one can define, following Adler, Yu and others, a supercuspidal representation π(S,χ) of G. For S unramified, we determine when π(S,χ) is generic, and which generic characters it contains.

Given a normal variety Z, a p-form σ defined on the smooth locus of Z and a resolution of singularities , we study the problem of extending the pull-back π*(σ) over the π-exceptional set . For log canonical pairs and for certain values of p, we show that an extension always exists, possibly with logarithmic poles along E. As a corollary, it is shown that sheaves of reflexive differentials enjoy good pull-back properties. A natural generalization of the well-known Bogomolov–Sommese vanishing theorem to log canonical threefold pairs follows.

A p-divisible group over a complete local domain determines a Galois representation on the Tate module of its generic fibre. We determine the image of this representation for the universal deformation in mixed characteristic of a bi-infinitesimal group and for the p-rank strata of the universal deformation in positive characteristic of an infinitesimal group. The method is a reduction to the known case of one-dimensional groups by a deformation argument based on properties of the stratification by Newton polygons.

Let F be a p-adic field. Consider a dual pair where SO(2n+1)+ is the split orthogonal group and is the metaplectic cover of the symplectic group Sp(2n) over F. We study lifting of characters between orthogonal and metaplectic groups. We say that a representation of SO(2n+1)+ lifts to a representation of if their characters on corresponding conjugacy classes are equal up to a transfer factor. We study properties of this transfer factor, which is essentially the character of the difference of the two halves of the oscillator representation. We show that the lifting commutes with parabolic induction. These results were motivated by the paper ‘Lifting of characters on orthogonal and metaplectic groups’ by Adams who considered the case F=ℝ.

Weitzenböck formulas are an important tool in relating local differential geometry to global topological properties by means of the so-called Bochner method. In this article we give a unified treatment of the construction of all possible Weitzenböck formulas for all irreducible, non-symmetric holonomy groups. We explicitly construct a basis of the space of Weitzenböck formulas. This classification allows us to find customized Weitzenböck formulas for applications such as eigenvalue estimates or Betti number estimates.

Let f1,…,fg∈ℂ(z) be rational functions, let Φ=(f1,…,fg) denote their coordinate-wise action on (ℙ1)g, let V ⊂(ℙ1)g be a proper subvariety, and let P be a point in (ℙ1)g(ℂ). We show that if 𝒮={n≥0:Φn(P)∈V (ℂ)} does not contain any infinite arithmetic progressions, then 𝒮 must be a very sparse set of integers. In particular, for any k and any sufficiently large N, the number of n≤N such that Φn(P)∈V (ℂ) is less than log kN, where log k denotes the kth iterate of the log function. This result can be interpreted as an analogue of the gap principle of Davenport–Roth and Mumford.

In this paper we construct, for F1 and F2 subbundles of a vector bundle E, a ‘Koszul duality’ equivalence between derived categories of 𝔾m-equivariant coherent(dg-)sheaves on the derived intersection , and the corresponding derived intersection . We also propose applications to Hecke algebras.

We identify the Poisson boundary of the dual of the universal compact quantum group Au(F) with a measurable field of ITPFI (infinite tensor product of finite type I) factors.
