Melanchroism and leucochroism occur in Notonecta shooterii Uhler. In collections containing fairly good series of this species there will be two color sorts; one, a nearly concolorous pale luteous, and the other, deeply pigmented with violet-black. In a lot of 37 specimens taken in Cochise County, Arizona on July 29, 1927 by the University of Kansas Entomological Expedition 11 specimens are dark and the others are pale. Of these 11 dark ones 9 are females and 2 are males, while of the 26 pale specimens the sex distribution is even, 13 males and 13 females. This lot was captured from one pool.

Our knowledge of the crane-flies of Labrador is still very insufficient. The most extensive collections that have yet been made are those of Mr. W. W. Perrett, taken in the years 1922 to 1925, inclusive, at and near Hopedale. This important series is the property of the Canadian National Collection and was kindly loaned to me for examination by Mr. Curran, to whom I would express my sincere gratitude.

In working over a collection of Diurnal Lepidoptera sent me by Mr. R. E. Hutchins of the Montana Agricultural College, Bozeman, Mont. for identification I came across a small series of a Euphydryas species which represents an apparently undescribed race or species belonging, according to genitalia, in the nubigena-taylori-editha complex. This group of so-called species, as I recently pointed out (1927, Canadian Entomologist, lix, 156) is distinguished genitalically by the reduced uncus and the shape of the harpe (op. cit. Pl. III, fig. I), these two organs being practically similar throughout the group.

In the Canadian Entomologist, Vol. XLVIII, 1916, p. 94, I described as new Onthophagus nigrescens from Dunedin, Florida. In the same periodical, Vol. LI, 1919, p. 31, I described Onthophagus alutaceus, also from Dunedin. These two species are, respectively, the numbers 13085 and 19946 of the Leng Catalogue and Supplement.

Black, thorax thinly pollinose; pleura black haired, squamae white. Length 12 to 13.5 mm.

Male. Face and cheeks yellow; head white pollinose; hair black; occipital pile yellowish. Front as wide as either eye, the vitta rusty reddish. Palpi and basal two antennal segments reddish; third antennal segment black, convex above, shorter than second ; penultimate aristal segment elongate, the preceding segment only about one and a half times as long as wide.

The genus Wagneria Desvoidy is represented in America by about a dozen described species, including those named in the present contribution. Two of these I am unable to recognize, the others being included in the key. The two new species differ from the others in the genus by possessing infra-squamal setulae and lacking discals on the intermediate abdominal segments of the males in addition to being larger than the allied species.

In August, 1925 a couple of days were spent in the vicinity of Pincher Creek, collecting. The prospects were so promising that an attempt has been made each year since to do a little collecting in this and other parts of the Crows Nest Pass. To date the results, especially among the aquatic beetles, have been most gratifying.

Through the courtesy of Professor George Maheux, Provincial Entomologist of the Department of Agriculture of the Province of Quebec and Curator of the Quebec Public Museum and Mr. G. S. Walley of the Department of Agriculture of Canada, the writers have recently had the privilege of studying the type specimen of Tetraphleps canadensis Provancher. The specimen is a true Tetraphleps and not a Lycotocoris as was at one time supposed. A comparison with the holotype of T. americana Parshley, kindly loaned for study by Dr. H. M. Parshley of Smith College, shows that this name must stand as a synonym of canadensis. Provancher's description with further notes is given below…..
