Does anni go with fetus (rather than, as everybody seems to take it, with imbribus; ‘fixed rain-showers in the year’, Bailey)? TLL 6.638.60f. adduces Sisenna, Hist. 100 fetum omnem … eius anni; Columella 10.256f. uersicoloribus anni / fetibus; Pliny 12.83 annuo fetu (for annus itself in the sense of anni fetus see OLD 8). Certis will then mean ‘reliable’, ‘assured’.
