Summary
namo uttare bhyaḥ
I bow down to the authentic lama, the face [that expresses] the summary of all refuges!
As for the method for realizing the primordial consciousness of mahāmudrā, one sees no other option than the path of devotion. This was to be understood. From the great Diamond Holder [through] Telo, Nāro, Mar[pa], Mi[larepa] to Dagpo[pa], [they have] the only father. Karma Kagyü [has] five forefathers and the root is Dagpo[pa], [his] direct students are Phagdrupa, Dü[sum] Khyen[pa], Baram [as] master and students, Tsälpa ‒ Four Major Kagyü [lineages]. From Phagdru it is divided into Dri[kung], Tag[lung], Thro[phu] Ling[ré], Ya[bzang], Shug[seb], Mar[tsang], Yelpa, known as the Eight Minor ones. These Victors, particularly now at the end of degenerate era, shine like the Sun among stars. This group of holders of mahāmudrā teachings ‒ fathers and sons of the Karma Kagyü lineages Dri[kung], Tag[lung], Tsäl[pa] and Ling[ré] ‒ descend one after another like a rosary of Buddhas. Grasp them as inseparable from the root lama; they attained mahāmudrā, [that gives] recognition and liberation simultaneously. In order to be able to hold the teaching lineage of the forefathers, the unfabricated devotion which is conscious of causes is the head of the White Panacea Meditation.
Thus the first is the opening expressed in nine verses and scrupulous invocation in four. [We] are attached to eight distracting dharmas. Cutting clinging to what manifests here, for the sake of the great stable result, remain in retreat like a deer. Follow fervently the complete liberation life-story of Zhäpa Dorjé. Reject samsaric joy as saliva and dust. If you do not tame your [mind-]stream by strong revulsion [to saṃsāra], you will not be able to [go to] the city of All-knowing ones. That is why it is explained that revulsion is like the foot of meditation.
The actual practice [is] the so called mahāmudrā, which is very famous. It is said that there are many views, standpoints and meditation methods; but if you meditate on it [mahāmudrā], you cut away elaborations [concerning] three times. Not bound by unwavering grasping at an object, only ordinary consciousness is genuine.
