Summary
In an era when religion is increasingly treated as irrelevant, when its value is increasingly questioned, and when religious-based speech is restricted or excluded entirely from the public square,1 it becomes increasingly important to remember the vital role of Judeo-Christian religion in history, as this opening quotation does, and particularly its crucial role in the quest for freedom. That role was not just one of altering history by protecting human rights, rule of law, and democracy, as important as those things are.
