The archbishop's mandate for the convocation
Iohannes, permissione divina Londoniensis episcopus, reverendo in Christo patri Domino Richardo, eadem permissione Cicestrensi episcopo, salutem et fraternate dilectionis incrementum continuum. Literas reverendissimi in Christo patris et domini Domini Thomae, permissione divina Cantuariensis archiepiscopi, totius Angliae primatis et metropolitani, vicesimo sexto die instantis mensis Martii [26 March 1539] noveritis nos, cum ea qua decuit reverentia, recepisse verborum sequentium sub tenore:
Thomas, permissione divina Cantuariensis archiepiscopus, totius Angliae primas et metropolitans, confratrinostro Iohanni, eadem permissione Londoniensi episcopo salutem et fraternam in Domino caritatem. Breve illustrissimi et invictissimi in Christo principis et doini nostri Domini Henrici octavi, dei ratia Angliae et Franciae regis, fidei defensoris et domini Hiberniae, ac in terra sub Christo Ecclesiae Anglicanae capitis supremi, nuper recepimus in haec verba:
Henricus octavus, Dei gratia rex Angliae et Franciae et dominus Hiberniae, reverendissimo in Christo patri Thomae, eadem gratia archiepiscopo Cantuariensi, totius Angliae primati, salutem. Quibusdam arduis et urgentibus negotiis nos securitatem et defensionem Ecclesiae Anglicanae ac pacem, tranquillitatem, bonum publicum et defensionem regni nostri et subditorum nostrorum eiusdem concernentibus, vobis in fide et dilectione quibus nobis tenemini rogando mandamus quatenus praemissis debito intuitu attentis et ponderatis universos et singulos episcopos vestrae provinciae ac decanos et priores ecclesiarum cathedralium, priores et alios clericos, exemptos et non exemptos, necnon archidiaconos, capitula, conventus et collegia, totumque clerum cuiuslibet dioceseos eiusdem provinciae ad comparendum coram vobis in ecclesia Sancti Pauli Londoniarum secundo die Maii proximo futuro [2 May 1539], modo debito convocari faciatis ad tractandum, consentiendum et concludendum super praemissis et aliis quae sibi clarius exponentur tune ibidem ex parte nostra. Et hoc sicut nos et statum regni nostri ac honorem et utilitatem ecclesiae praedictae diligitis, nullatenus omittatis. Teste meipso apud Westmonasterium duodecimo die Martii anno regni nostri tricesimo [12 March 1539].
Quocirca fraternitati vestrae committimus et mandamus quatenus, omnes et singulos dictae ecclesiae nostrae Cantuariensis suffraganeos, infra dictam nostram provinciam Cantuariensem constitutos, ac absentium episcoporum (si qui sint) vicarios in spiritualibus generales citetis peremptorie, necnon decanos ac priores ecclesiarum cathedralium ac singula capitula earundem, archidiaconos, abbates,
