[70b] Reverendissimo in Christo patri et domino Domino Henrico, Dei gratia Cantuariensi archiepiscopo, totius Angliae primati et apostolicae sedis legato, vester humilis et devotus Thomas Gilbert, decretorum doctor, canonicus ecclesiae cathedralis Wellensis ac reverendissimi in Christo patris et domini Domini Oliveri, permissione divina Bathonensis et Wellensis episcopi, ipso reverendo patre extra suam diocesim in remotis agente, vicarius in spiritualibus generalis omnimodas reverentias et oboedientias tanto reverendissimo patri debitas cum honore. Literas venerabilis viri Magistri Willelmi Lichfield legum doctoris, officialis et custodis spiritualitatis civitatis et diocesis Londoniensium sede episcopali iam vacante, mandatum vestrum reverendissimum in se continentes nuper recepimus sub eu qui sequitur tenorem verborum:

Reverendo in Christo patri et domino Domino Olivero, permissione divina Bathonensi et Wellensi episcopo, Willelmus Lichfield legum doctor, officialis et custos spiritualitatis civitatis et diocesis Londoniensium sede [71a] episcopali ibidem iam vacante, omnimodas reverentiam et oboedientiam debitas cum honore. Literas reverendissimi in Christo patris et domini Domini Henrici, permissione divina Cantuariensis archiepiscopi, totius Angliae primatis et apostolicae sedis legati, septimo die mensis Ianuarii [7 January 1502] noveritis nos recepisse in haec verba:

Henricus, permissione divina Cantuariensis archiepiscopus, totius Angliae primas et apostolicae sedis legatus, venerabili viro Magistro Willelmo Lichfield legum doctori, nostro in civitate et diocesi Londoniensibus sede episcopali ibidem vacante officiali, salutem, gratiam et benedictionem. Breve regium nobis directum nuper recepimus in haec verba:

Henricus, Dei gratia rex Angliae et Franciae et dominus Hiberniae venerabili in Christo patri Henrico eadem gratia archiepiscopo Cantuariensi, totius Angliae primati et apostolicae sedis legato, salutem. Sanctissimus dominus noster Alexander papa sextus per breve suum iamdudum nobis exposuit quod ingruentibus retroactis temporibus et nunc novissime multiplicibus et nefariis perfidorum Turcorum adversus Christianum populum saevissimis conatibus cruentissimis caedibus et miserabilibus crudelitatibus ipse una cum venerabilibus fratribus suis sacrosanctae Romanae ecclesiae cardinalibus cupientes huiusmodi imminentibus Catholicae fidei periculis obviare ob subsidium et defensionem eiusdem orthodoxae fidei huiusmodi universae ecclesiae Christianae unam integram decimam imposuisset, asserens ut asserimus, quod bullae huiusmodi impositionis decimarum ubique locorum per singulos Catholicos reges et principes in eorum regnis ac dominiis passim admisse ex publicatione ac earum virtute ex auctoritate ipsa decima exacta, collecta et soluta esset et propter consimiles bullas impositionis decimae pro ipsa decima in hoc regno nostro levanda et exigenda ad nos transmisit et destinavit,
