Summary

This chapter reviews conventions for measuring, describing, and classifying flakes or “detached pieces.” These include core-initiation flakes (EAST Typology Group V), core-exploitation flakes (Group VI), core-repair flakes (Group VII), and retouch flakes (Group VIII). The chapter answers common questions about flakes/detached pieces.
