Summary
The aim of this work is to provide, in one convenient source, authoritative information to guide the anesthesia provider at the point of care. Its five sections arose from the clinician's perspective.
CO-EXISTING DISEASES
What medical problems does this patient have and how should I manage them?
PROCEDURES
What do I need to know about the proposed surgical procedure to safely care for the patient?
CRITICAL EVENTS
How do I diagnose and treat unexpected life-threatening perioperative problems?
TECHNIQUES
What are the important aspects of performing certain anesthetic techniques or procedures?
DRUGS
What information do I need to know about a medication I am about to give, or that the patient is receiving on a chronic basis?
We wish to acknowledge the 63 residents and 43 faculty who contributed to this project, as well as our department chair, Dr. Ronald D.Miller.
