Summary
On 3 November 2020, one of the most heated and controversial presidential campaigns in American history ended when the American people elected Joe Biden to be their 46th president. The results of the election did not end the controversy, which continued to the very day of inauguration, on 20 January 2021. America was torn between the supporters of the departing – and most controversial president – Donald Trump, and his opponents, all at a time when the United States was struck by an international pandemic, Covid-19. Israelis followed the election campaign and its outcome with great interest. Their main concern though was not how the United States, a world power, would rebound from the grave divisions wrought by the Trump presidency, or from the disastrous handling of the pandemic by the departing administration.
