Summary
This section presents a selection of theories that are relevant to our problem. It briefly presents ecological psychology, activity theory, distributed cognition, actor-network theory, and social representations. Each of these theories addresses some aspects of human behaviour in society; nevertheless, each leaves aside some important aspects of it – especially in the perspective of interventions to modify behaviour.
These theories are important per se; they also constitute pieces of the jigsaw puzzle that installation theory assembles in one single framework.Their reading is useful to situate installation theory but not indispensable to understand it. The informed reader can skip this section and go straight to Chapter 4, perhaps after reading the takeaway at the end of the chapter.
