Summary
This chapter provides an overview of installation theory.
It explains why simultaneously addressing the two big questions we tackle (regulation of societies, determination of individual behaviour) is easier than considering them separately.
It then describes the type of data in which the theory is grounded: first-person video recordings of activity in a real context, obtained through miniature video cameras worn by the subject, and in-depth introspective discussions about what happened while re-viewing the tapes with the participants themselves.
In using this technique we benefit from microscopic detail in the analysis of behaviour in real-world situations.
