Summary
Chapter Six explores the psychological origins of the objections to human germline modification discussed in Part One of the book. It argues that a heuristic known as psychological essentialism accounts for the objections and the stereotypes associated with them. The analysis explains how hidden intuitions about living kinds and artifacts drive misconceptions about human germline modification and children born with its aid.
