1827. June 4. AT a MEETING at TRINITY LODGE, the following REPORT was agreed to.
The Syndicateappointed to “enquire whether any and what alterations may be made with advantage in the Examination for the Degree of B.A.” beg leave, with reference to the Examination for Mathematical Honours, to make the following
REPORT TO THE SENATE:
It 'appears that in consequence of the great increase of the number of persons to be examined, the time appointed for the purpose is at present inadequate; insomuch that though the Examination is now conducted with very great exertion on the part of the Examiners, it is scarcely possible to give sufficient attention to the papers of all the candidates.
On considering the means of remedying this evil, it seems to the Syndicate that less inconvenience will arise from extending the time of the Examination, than from increasing the number of Examiners.
It is recommended therefore that two days be added to the duration of the Examination; and that the Examination begin on the Friday preceding the first Monday in the Lent Term; admission ad respondendum quæstioni taking place on the Saturday eight days afterwards.
This addition will, it is conceived, afford sufficient time for examining the papers with due attention. It will also, as appears by a reference to the subjoined Table, give an increase of 5 hours, to the time allowed to the candidates for answering questions, which increase seems to the Syndicate highly advisable.
