Summary
In our times, reports of the earliest cases of COVID-19 came from China, where the regional newspapers (and later follow ups by health and science outlets) suggested that diagnoses in Hubei dated “back to at least November 17, 2019” (Lafee, 2021), a bit in advance of the Wuhan cluster of infections that were thought to be identified as the initiating event in late December of 2019 (Pekar et al., 2021). Subsequent reports, as the virus circulated worldwide, could be heard in the “ordinary discourse” of our present day.
