Summary
This chapter begins with a general discussion of the emergence of the gospel genre and the development of the Passion narrative. It then treats the critical issues that are peculiar to the interpretation of Mark, including the “Messianic Secret,” the characterization of the apostles, and the text-critical status of the “longer ending” of the gospel.
