Summary
The logistic model developed in Chapter 3 is based on the assumption that individuals of a population are spatially distributed completely at random, as commonly known as the Poisson distribution. This is a rather restricted assumption. Thus, I generalize the type of distribution from the Poisson to the more flexible ‘negative binomial distribution’. I begin with showing how to derive the N-B distribution from scratch in a step-by-step manner, so that the readers would know how it could be applied to an ecological study.
