Summary
In late 2008, the New York Times’ Turkey correspondent took a boat tour along the Bosporus with historian Murat Belge. “History can be slippery in Turkey,” the Times told its readers.1 Over fish and rakı, Belge elaborated, “We have a very unhealthy relationship with our history … It’s basically a collection of lies.”
