Summary

Explication of existence. Spinoza suggests in several places that (i) the existence of a being whose essence does not involve existence can be explicated by duration, whereas (ii) the existence of an eternal being (that is, a being whose essence involves its existence) cannot be explicated by duration (CM i/244, CM i/250, E1def8exp, E5p23d, E5p23s, E5p29d).
