Back in Berkeley, Weinberg reconsiders how we understand some of the theories of physics, that is, why they actually are true. He begins teaching a general relativity course starting from physical principles, rather than the usual geometric approach. These course notes later became the basis for his book Gravitation and Cosmology. Around this time, Louise was pregnant, so Weinberg avoided opportunities to travel to spend more time at home. He begins working on functional analysis, but discovers the Russian Faddeev has already done foundational work in this area. Weinberg then reexamines what he knows about quantum field theory, and jettisons the Heisenberg–Pauli canonical formalism, taking particles as his starting point. This led him to a clearer understaning of antimatter. He embarks on a series of papers about massless particles. in 1964, he is promoted to full professor. Louise applied to Harvard Law School, prompting a move to Cambridge, Mass.

The L4 nerve root originates from the lumbar spinal cord region, the third of the four regions of the spine from top to bottom. This nerve root is part of the cauda equina as the spinal cord ends at the L1–L2 vertebral level. It eventually exits through the intervertebral foramen between L4 and L5 vertebral bodies.

The retina is a thin layer of sensory neurons lining the posterior-most two-thirds of the inner eyeball. The retina functions specifically to sense light energy in the form of photons coming in from the environment through the lens and processing it into neuronal signals. The retina and the optic nerve are derived from the diencephalon.

The frontal eye field (FEF) or Brodmann area 8 is situated in the posterior part of the middle frontal gyrus at the junction of the precentral sulcus and superior frontal sulcus. This cortical area is thought to play a critical role in the generation of eye movements (saccadic and smooth) toward the contralateral direction.

The pineal gland is a small endocrine gland positioned posterior to the third ventricle and inferior to the splenium of the corpus callosum. Throughout history, many mystics and psychics have called it the “third eye,” while others give it this name because of how sensitive it is to light. The major function of the pineal gland is to produce melatonin in response to light or darkness in the environment. Calcification of the pineal gland is common in older age, and often called “brain sand.”

The anterior cerebral artery (ACA) travels within the interhemispheric fissure, posterior to anterior from the bifurcation of the terminal internal carotid artery (ICA). The first segment of the ACA is short and extends from its origin at the bifurcation of terminal ICA to its junction with the anterior communicating artery (ACOM). From there, it almost runs vertically, rostral to the corpus callosum till its genu. It gives off a branch at this point called the callosomarginal artery. From here on, it continues as pericallosal artery running immediately above the corpus callosum within the callosal sulcus.

Milton’s poem, “Lycidas,” written in memory of Edward King, who drowned sailing from England to his native Ireland, represents a turning point in Milton’s development, his culminating intervention in the ancient pastoral elegy tradition. Considered archipelagically, “Lycidas” narrates a crisis that is spiritual, political, and regional at the same time: A Cambridge-educated Protestant, King represents an interisland possibility for Irish reformation, lost. With “Lycidas,” Milton rereads Spenser’s "Colin Clouts," revising Spenser’s earlier poem. A new, better-educated Colin – Edward King – does not come home again. The loss of Edward King alters what Milton thinks could have been a more positive, reformed relationship on both sides of the Irish Seas.

This paper gives a survey about the currently used methods for computing with polycyclic groups. It discusses the different representations for polycyclic groups, gives a brief outline of many existing methods and considers two algorithms in a little more detail: the Frattini subgroup algorithm and the methods for solving the conjugacy problem. The final section of the paper exhibits some open problems.

The falx cerebri is a midline, dural reflection, positioned vertically in the middle. It contains the superior sagittal sinus in its superior edge and the inferior sagittal sinus in its inferior edge (between the flow).

The C8 nerve root is the lowest root in the cervical spine. After exiting the cord, it joins the T1 nerve root below it (which is the first root of the thoracic spine) to form the lower trunk of the brachial plexus.

The jugular foramen is a large cavity positioned at the base of the skull, with its posterior border being the occipital bone and its anterior border being the petrous portion of the temporal bone. Through its aperture passes the glossopharyngeal (innervates the swallowing muscles), vagus (provides parasympathetic innervation to the heart), and accessory nerves (innervates muscles that allow for shrugging shoulders) as well as the jugular vein.

The bridging veins drain venous blood from the brain medially into the superior sagittal sinus, which is the most superior venous pathway in the brain. They poke through the dura mater to do so and are often sheared in the case of head trauma.

Discrete subgroups of $\SL(2,\R)$ are well understood, and classified by the geometry of the corresponding hyperbolic surfaces. Discrete subgroups of higher-rank semisimple Lie groups, such as $\SL(n,\R)$ for $n>2$, remain more mysterious. While lattices in this setting are rigid, there also exist more flexible, ``thinner discrete subgroups, which may have large and interesting deformation spaces, giving rise in particular to so-called higher Teichm\uller theory. We survey recent progress in constructing and understanding such discrete subgroups from a geometric and dynamical viewpoint.

In the 1980s, two groups of physicists in Europe and America began to lay plans for a high energy proton accelerator that could settle the question of electroweak symmetry breaking. In 1984, Weinberg is appointed to the SSC Board of Overseers, and this work would occupy his time for much of the next decade. Weinberg testifies before Congress in favor of the SSC project and starts to appreciate the role of pork-barrel politics in the siting decisions. The Texas site of Waxahachie, near Dallas, is approved in 1988. The project’s construction funding is approved but faces ongoing challenges from other competing areas of science. Changes in the specifications, required by the science goals, lead to increases in the costs, resulting in bad press. In 1993, the funding was cut, and the SSC was killed off. Weinberg writes a successful trade book, Dreams of a Final Theory.

Admittedly, this is probably the toughest riddle to get. First you must know that the corticospinal tract is also called the pyramidal tract. Thus, it would have received its surname in Egypt. This is also hinted in the reference to something with walls that are tough to decrypt (hieroglyphics) being a key feature of pyramids. The pyramidal tract/corticospinal tract is a key descending pathway that decussates (switches sides) at the level of caudal medulla and descends toward the spinal cord (heads toward ground). Lesions affecting the corticospinal tract will produce clonus and spastic paralysis (clonia and hypertonia). Many of those with said lesions will sadly remain wheelchair-bound because of their injury.
