The importance of Chapter 6 is underlined in Chapter 7 in which the selection and implementation of specific interventions are described. In Chapter 7, Emily’s case illustration is the focus, with detailed descriptions of her use of various specific interventions until she and her therapist home in on an effective array of treatment components derived from all five SCAMP domains. Also illustrated, is the flexibility of ComB treatment in addressing broader life circumstances that provide challenges for the maintenance of effective treatment. The importance of lifestyle changes that enhance and bolster ComB treatment is emphasized.

Evidence-based psychotherapeutic approaches for personality disorders are in general lengthy and intensive and rely heavily on access to extensively trained and highly skilled therapists. Since these are resource requirements that can often not be met by treatment providers in the average routine clinical setting, many attempts have been made to develop brief interventions or abbreviated versions of existing approaches to the treatment of personality disorders. Despite these attempts, knowledge is still limited.This commentary discusses some of the knowledge that is lacking and questions and challenges that seem to remain for the task of developing and validating brief interventions for personality disorders.
