This chapter provides an overview of the world's literature on the role of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in assisted reproductive technology (ART). It reviews the criticisms of the current randomized controlled trials (RCT) and placebo controlled trials of acupuncture (Ac) on in vitro fertilization (IVF) outcomes research as well as compare the results with Western research. Stress plays a major role in our every day existence. Stress increases the cortisol hormones as well as other neurochemicals. Traditionally, medical practices were proven through reproducibility and predictability rather than controlled trials, which are relatively new to Western medicine. There have been numerous articles published demonstrating effectiveness, as well as a financial benefit of Ac therapies when used in conjunction with Western treatments. Ac treatment results in the avoidance of surgery, and Ac treatment results in quicker return to physical labor for patients suffering from low back pain.
