In this paper, we mainly investigate the well-posedness of the four-order degenerate differential equation ($P_4$): $(Mu)''''(t) + \alpha (Lu)'''(t) + (Lu)''(t)$ $=\beta Au(t) + \gamma Bu'(t) + Gu'_t + Fu_t + f(t),\,( t\in [0,\,2\pi ])$ in periodic Lebesgue–Bochner spaces $L^p(\mathbb {T}; X)$ and periodic Besov spaces $B_{p,q}^s\;(\mathbb {T}; X)$, where $A$, $B$, $L$ and $M$ are closed linear operators on a Banach space $X$ such that $D(A)\cap D(B)\subset D(M)\cap D(L)$ and $\alpha,\,\beta,\,\gamma \in \mathbb {C}$, $G$ and $F$ are bounded linear operators from $L^p([-2\pi,\,0];X)$ (respectively $B_{p,q}^s([-2\pi,\,0];X)$) into $X$, $u_t(\cdot ) = u(t+\cdot )$ and $u'_t(\cdot ) = u'(t+\cdot )$ are defined on $[-2\pi,\,0]$ for $t\in [0,\, 2\pi ]$. We completely characterize the well-posedness of ($P_4$) in the above two function spaces by using known operator-valued Fourier multiplier theorems.

In 2005, N. Nikolski proved among other things that for any $r\in (0,1)$ and any $K\geq 1$, the condition number $CN(T)=\Vert T\Vert \cdot \Vert T^{-1}\Vert $ of any invertible n-dimensional complex Banach space operators T satisfying the Kreiss condition, with spectrum contained in $\left \{ r\leq |z|<1\right \}$, satisfies the inequality $CN(T)\leq CK(T)\Vert T \Vert n/r^{n}$ where $K(T)$ denotes the Kreiss constant of T and $C>0$ is an absolute constant. He also proved that for $r\ll 1/n,$ the latter bound is asymptotically sharp as $n\rightarrow \infty $. In this note, we prove that this bound is actually achieved by a family of explicit $n\times n$ Toeplitz matrices with arbitrary singleton spectrum $\{\lambda \}\subset \mathbb {D}\setminus \{0\}$ and uniformly bounded Kreiss constant. Independently, we exhibit a sequence of Jordan blocks with Kreiss constants tending to $\infty $ showing that Nikolski’s inequality is still asymptotically sharp as K and n go to $\infty $.

On post-critically finite self-similar sets, whose walk dimensions of diffusions are in general larger than 2, we find a sharp region where two classes of Besov spaces, the heat Besov spaces $B^{p,q}_\sigma (K)$ and the Lipschitz–Besov spaces $\Lambda ^{p,q}_\sigma (K)$, are identical. In particular, we provide concrete examples that $B^{p,q}_\sigma (K)=\Lambda ^{p,q}_\sigma (K)$ with $\sigma>1$. Our method is purely analytical, and does not involve heat kernel estimate.

In this paper, we give a complete description of closed ideals of the Banach algebra $\mathcal {B}^{s}_{p}\cap \lambda _{\alpha }$ , where $\mathcal {B}^{s}_{p}$ denotes the analytic Besov space and $\lambda _{\alpha }$ is the separable analytic Lipschitz space. Our result extends several previous results in Bahajji-El Idrissi and El-Fallah (2020, Studia Mathematica 255, 209–217), Bouya (2009, Canadian Journal of Mathematics 61, 282–298), and Shirokov (1982, Izv. Ross. Akad. Nauk Ser. Mat. 46, 1316–1332).

Li et al. [A spectral radius type formula for approximation numbers of composition operators, J. Funct. Anal. 267(12) (2014), 4753-4774] proved a spectral radius type formula for the approximation numbers of composition operators on analytic Hilbert spaces with radial weights and on $H^{p}$ spaces, $p\geq 1$, involving Green capacity. We prove that their formula holds for a wide class of Banach spaces of analytic functions and weights.

For the Bergman projection operator $P$ we prove that

Here $\lambda$ stands for the hyperbolic metric in the unit ball $B$ of ${{\mathbb{C}}^{n}}$, and ${{B}_{1}}$ denotes the Besov space with an adequate semi-norm. We also consider a generalization of this result. This generalizes some recent results due to Perälä.

We consider the nonparametric regression estimation problem of recovering an unknownresponse function f on the basis of spatially inhomogeneous data when thedesign points follow a known density g with a finite number ofwell-separated zeros. In particular, we consider two different cases: wheng has zeros of a polynomial order and when g has zerosof an exponential order. These two cases correspond to moderate and severe data losses,respectively. We obtain asymptotic (as the sample size increases) minimax lower bounds forthe L2-risk when f is assumed to belong to aBesov ball, and construct adaptive wavelet thresholding estimators of fthat are asymptotically optimal (in the minimax sense) or near-optimal within alogarithmic factor (in the case of a zero of a polynomial order), over a wide range ofBesov balls. The spatially inhomogeneous ill-posed problem that we investigate isinherently more difficult than spatially homogeneous ill-posed problems like,e.g., deconvolution. In particular, due to spatial irregularity,assessment of asymptotic minimax global convergence rates is a much harder task than thederivation of asymptotic minimax local convergence rates studied recently in theliterature. Furthermore, the resulting estimators exhibit very different behavior andasymptotic minimax global convergence rates in comparison with the solution of spatiallyhomogeneous ill-posed problems. For example, unlike in the deconvolution problem, theasymptotic minimax global convergence rates are greatly influenced not only by the extentof data loss but also by the degree of spatial homogeneity of f.Specifically, even if 1/g is non-integrable, one can recoverf as well as in the case of an equispaced design (in terms ofasymptotic minimax global convergence rates) when it is homogeneous enough since theestimator is “borrowing strength” in the areas where f is adequatelysampled.

In this paper we consider a smoothness parameter estimation problem for a density function. The smoothness parameter of a function is defined in terms of Besov spaces. This paper is an extension of recent results (K. Dziedziul, M. Kucharska, B. Wolnik, Estimation of the smoothness parameter). The construction of the estimator is based on wavelets coefficients. Although we believe that the effective estimation of the smoothness parameter is impossible in general case, we can show that it becomes possible for some classes of the density functions.

In nonparametric statistics a classical optimality criterion for estimation procedures isprovided by the minimax rate of convergence. However this point of view can be subject tocontroversy as it requires to look for the worst behavior of an estimation procedure in agiven space. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new criterion based on genericbehavior of estimators. We are here interested in the rate of convergence obtained withsome classical estimators on almost every, in the sense of prevalence, function in a Besovspace. We also show that generic results coincide with minimax ones in these cases.

In this paper we study bilinear Hankel forms of higher weights on Hardy spaces in several dimensions. (The Schatten class Hankel forms of higher weights on weighted Bergman spaces have already been studied by Janson and Peetre for one dimension and by Sundhäll for several dimensions). We get a full characterization of Schatten class Hankel forms in terms of conditions for the symbols to be in certain Besov spaces. Also, the Hankel forms are bounded and compact if and only if the symbols satisfy certain Carleson measure criteria and vanishing Carleson measure criteria, respectively.

Let $1\leq p,q\leq\infty$, $s\in\mathbb{R}$ and let $X$ be a Banach space. We show that the analogue of Marcinkiewicz’s Fourier multiplier theorem on $L^p(\mathbb{T})$ holds for the Besov space $B_{p,q}^s(\mathbb{T};X)$ if and only if $1\ltp\lt\infty$ and $X$ is a UMD-space. Introducing stronger conditions we obtain a periodic Fourier multiplier theorem which is valid without restriction on the indices or the space (which is analogous to Amann’s result (Math. Nachr. 186 (1997), 5–56) on the real line). It is used to characterize maximal regularity of periodic Cauchy problems.

We regard a system of left invariant vector fields $X=\,\{{{X}_{1}},\,\ldots ,\,{{X}_{k}}\}$ satisfying the Hörmander condition and the related Carnot-Carathéodory metric on a unimodular Lie group $G$. We define Besov spaces corresponding to the sub-Laplacian $\Delta \,=\,\sum X_{i}^{2}$ both with positive and negative smoothness. The atomic decomposition of the spaces is given. In consequence we get the distributional characterization of the Hausdorff dimension of Borel subsets with the Haar measure zero.

We consider the problem of estimating an unknown regression function when the design is random with values in $\mathbb{R}^k$. Our estimation procedure is based on model selection and does not rely on any prior information on the target function. We start with a collection of linear functional spaces and build, on a data selected space among this collection, the least-squares estimator. We study the performance of an estimator which is obtained by modifying this least-squares estimator on a set of small probability. For the so-defined estimator, we establish nonasymptotic risk bounds that can be related to oracle inequalities. As a consequence of these, we show that our estimator possesses adaptive properties in the minimax sense over large families of Besov balls Bα,l,∞(R) with R>0, l ≥ 1 and α > α1 where α1 is a positive number satisfying 1/l - 1/2 ≤ α1 < 1/l. We also study the particular case where the regression function is additive and then obtain an additive estimator which converges at the same rate as it does when k=1.


For a bounded region G ⊂ ℂ and a compact set K ⊂ G, with area measure zero, we will characterize the invariant subspaces ℳ (under ƒ → zƒ) of the Bergman space (G \ K), 1 ≤ p < ∞, which contain (G) and with dim(ℳ/(z - λ)ℳ) = 1 for all λ ∈ G \ K. When G \ K is connected, we will see that dim(ℳ/(z - λ)ℳ) = 1 for all λ ∈ G \ K and thus in this case we will have a complete description of the invariant subspaces lying between (G) and (G \ K). When p = ∞, we will remark on the structure of the weak-star closed z-invariant subspaces between H∞(G) and H∞(G \ K). When G \ K is not connected, we will show that in general the invariant subspaces between (G) and (G \ K) are fantastically complicated. As an application of these results, we will remark on the complexity of the invariant subspaces (under ƒ → ζƒ) of certain Besov spaces on K. In particular, we shall see that in the harmonic Dirichlet space , there are invariant subspaces ℱ such that the dimension of ζℱ in ℱ is infinite.

In this paper, we study the boundedness of є-families of operators on Triebel-Lizorkin with wide range of parameters. We also prove that є -families of operators are bounded from Triebel-Lizorkin spaces into (generalized) tent spaces, and obtain a characterization of certain Triebel-Lizorkin spaces in terms of tent spaces. In particular, the boundedness of fractional operators in Triebel-Lizorkin, and a sharp version of T\theorem for generalized Calderón-Zygmund operators on Triebel-Lizorkin spaces can be considered as applications of (proofs of) these results.
