We consider a class of nonhomogeneous elliptic equations in the half-space with critical singular boundary potentials and nonlinear fractional derivative terms. The forcing terms are considered on the boundary and can be taken as singular measure. Employing a functional setting and approach based on localization-in-frequency and Littlewood–Paley decomposition, we obtain results on solvability, regularity, and symmetry of solutions.

We study the most general class of eigenfunction expansions for abstract normal operators with pure point spectrum in a complex Hilbert space. We find sufficient conditions for such expansions to be unconditionally convergent in spaces with two norms and also estimate the degree of this convergence. Our result essentially generalizes and complements the known theorems of Krein and of Krasnosel'skiĭ and Pustyl'nik. We apply it to normal elliptic pseudodifferential operators on compact boundaryless $C^{\infty }$-manifolds. We find generic conditions for eigenfunction expansions induced by such operators to converge unconditionally in the Sobolev spaces $W^{\ell }_{p}$ with $p>2$ or in the spaces $C^{\ell }$ (specifically, for the $p$-th mean or uniform convergence on the manifold). These conditions are sufficient and necessary for the indicated convergence on Sobolev or Hörmander function classes and are given in terms of parameters characterizing these classes. We also find estimates for the degree of the convergence on such function classes. These results are new even for differential operators on the circle and for multiple Fourier series.

Dispersive and Strichartz estimates are obtained for solutions to the wave equation with a Laguerre potential in spatial dimension three. To obtain the desired dispersive estimate, based on the spectral properties of the Schrödinger operator involved, we subsequently prove the dispersive estimate for the corresponding Schrödinger semigroup, obtain a Gaussian-type upper bound, establish Bernstein-type inequalities, and finally pass to the Müller–Seeger’s subordination formula. The desired Strichartz estimates follow by the established dispersive estimate and the standard argument of Keel–Tao.

We establish new local and global estimates for evolutionary partial differential equations in classical Banach and quasi-Banach spaces that appear most frequently in the theory of partial differential equations. More specifically, we obtain optimal (local in time) estimates for the solution to the Cauchy problem for variable-coefficient evolutionary partial differential equations. The estimates are achieved by introducing the notions of Schrödinger and general oscillatory integral operators with inhomogeneous phase functions and prove sharp local and global regularity results for these in Besov–Lipschitz and Triebel–Lizorkin spaces.

A bosonic Laplacian, which is a generalization of Laplacian, is constructed as a second-order conformally invariant differential operator acting on functions taking values in irreducible representations of the special orthogonal group, hence of the spin group. In this paper, we firstly introduce some properties for homogeneous polynomial null solutions to bosonic Laplacians, which give us some important results, such as an orthogonal decomposition of the space of polynomials in terms of homogeneous polynomial null solutions to bosonic Laplacians, etc. This work helps us to introduce Bergman spaces related to bosonic Laplacians, named as bosonic Bergman spaces, in higher spin spaces. Reproducing kernels for bosonic Bergman spaces in the unit ball and a description of bosonic Bergman projection are given as well. At the end, we investigate bosonic Hardy spaces, which are considered as generalizations of harmonic Hardy spaces. Analogs of some well-known results for harmonic Hardy spaces are provided here. For instance, connections to certain complex Borel measure spaces, growth estimates for functions in the bosonic Hardy spaces, etc.

Let $\Omega \subset \mathbb {R}^{n+1}$ , $n\ge 2$ , be a $1$ -sided nontangentially accessible domain, that is, a set which is quantitatively open and path-connected. Assume also that $\Omega $ satisfies the capacity density condition. Let $L_0 u=-\mathop {\operatorname {div}}\nolimits (A_0 \nabla u)$ , $Lu=-\mathop {\operatorname {div}}\nolimits (A\nabla u)$ be two real (not necessarily symmetric) uniformly elliptic operators in $\Omega $ , and write $\omega _{L_0}, \omega _L$ for the respective associated elliptic measures. We establish the equivalence between the following properties: (i) $\omega _L \in A_{\infty }(\omega _{L_0})$ , (ii) L is $L^p(\omega _{L_0})$ -solvable for some $p\in (1,\infty )$ , (iii) bounded null solutions of L satisfy Carleson measure estimates with respect to $\omega _{L_0}$ , (iv) $\mathcal {S}<\mathcal {N}$ (i.e., the conical square function is controlled by the nontangential maximal function) in $L^q(\omega _{L_0})$ for some (or for all) $q\in (0,\infty )$ for any null solution of L, and (v) L is $\mathrm {BMO}(\omega _{L_0})$ -solvable. Also, we obtain a qualitative analog of the previous equivalences. Namely, we characterize the absolute continuity of $\omega _{L_0}$ with respect to $\omega _L$ in terms of some qualitative local $L^2(\omega _{L_0})$ estimates for the truncated conical square function for any bounded null solution of L. This is also equivalent to the finiteness $\omega _{L_0}$ -almost everywhere of the truncated conical square function for any bounded null solution of L. As applications, we show that $\omega _{L_0}$ is absolutely continuous with respect to $\omega _L$ if the disagreement of the coefficients satisfies some qualitative quadratic estimate in truncated cones for $\omega _{L_0}$ -almost everywhere vertex. Finally, when $L_0$ is either the transpose of L or its symmetric part, we obtain the corresponding absolute continuity upon assuming that the antisymmetric part of the coefficients has some controlled oscillation in truncated cones for $\omega _{L_0}$ -almost every vertex.

This paper proposes a fairly general new point of view on the question of asymptotic stability of (topological) solitons. Our approach is based on the use of the distorted Fourier transform at the nonlinear level; it does not rely only on Strichartz or virial estimates and is therefore able to treat low-power nonlinearities (hence also nonlocalised solitons) and capture the global (in space and time) behaviour of solutions.

More specifically, we consider quadratic nonlinear Klein-Gordon equations with a regular and decaying potential in one space dimension. Additional assumptions are made so that the distorted Fourier transform of the solution vanishes at zero frequency. Assuming also that the associated Schrödinger operator has no negative eigenvalues, we obtain global-in-time bounds, including sharp pointwise decay and modified asymptotics, for small solutions.

These results have some direct applications to the asymptotic stability of (topological) solitons, as well as several other potential applications to a variety of related problems. For instance, we obtain full asymptotic stability of kinks with respect to odd perturbations for the double sine-Gordon problem (in an appropriate range of the deformation parameter). For the $\phi ^4$ problem, we obtain asymptotic stability for small odd solutions, provided the nonlinearity is projected on the continuous spectrum. Our results also go beyond these examples since our framework allows for the presence of a fully coherent phenomenon (a space-time resonance) at the level of quadratic interactions, which creates a degeneracy in distorted Fourier space. We devise a suitable framework that incorporates this and use multilinear harmonic analysis in the distorted setting to control all nonlinear interactions.

In this paper, we study global-in-time, weighted Strichartz estimates for the Dirac equation on warped product spaces in dimension $n\geq 3$ . In particular, we prove estimates for the dynamics restricted to eigenspaces of the Dirac operator on the compact spin manifolds defining the ambient manifold under some explicit sufficient condition on the metric and estimates with loss of angular derivatives for general initial data in the setting of spherically symmetric and asymptotically flat manifolds.

In this paper, we develop an extremely simple method to establish the sharpened Adams-type inequalities on higher-order Sobolev spaces $W^{m,\frac {n}{m}}(\mathbb {R}^n)$ in the entire space $\mathbb {R}^n$ , which can be stated as follows: Given $\Phi \left ( t\right ) =e^{t}-\underset {j=0}{\overset {n-2}{\sum }} \frac {t^{j}}{j!}$ and the Adams sharp constant $\beta _{n,m}$ . Our argument avoids applying the complicated blow-up analysis often used in the literature to deal with such sharpened inequalities.

It was observed recently in work of Bez, Buschenhenke, Cowling, Flock and the first author, that the euclidean Brascamp–Lieb inequality satisfies a natural and useful Fourier duality property. The purpose of this paper is to establish an appropriate discrete analogue of this. Our main result identifies the Brascamp–Lieb constants on (finitely-generated) discrete abelian groups with Brascamp–Lieb constants on their (Pontryagin) duals. As will become apparent, the natural setting for this duality principle is that of locally compact abelian groups, and this raises basic questions about Brascamp–Lieb constants formulated in this generality.

We establish new Strichartz estimates for orthonormal families of initial data in the case of the wave, Klein–Gordon and fractional Schrödinger equations. Our estimates extend those of Frank–Sabin in the case of the wave and Klein–Gordon equations, and generalize work of Frank et al. and Frank–Sabin for the Schrödinger equation. Due to a certain technical barrier, except for the classical Schrödinger equation, the Strichartz estimates for orthonormal families of initial data have not previously been established up to the sharp summability exponents in the full range of admissible pairs. We obtain the optimal estimates in various notable cases and improve the previous results.

The main novelty of this paper is our derivation and use of estimates for weighted oscillatory integrals, which we combine with an approach due to Frank and Sabin. Our weighted oscillatory integral estimates are, in a certain sense, rather delicate endpoint versions of known dispersive estimates with power-type weights of the form $|\xi |^{-\lambda }$ or $(1 + |\xi |^2)^{-\lambda /2}$, where $\lambda \in \mathbb {R}$. We achieve optimal decay rates by considering such weights with appropriate $\lambda \in \mathbb {C}$. For the wave and Klein–Gordon equations, our weighted oscillatory integral estimates are new. For the fractional Schrödinger equation, our results overlap with prior work of Kenig–Ponce–Vega in a certain regime. Our contribution to the theory of weighted oscillatory integrals has also been influenced by earlier work of Carbery–Ziesler, Cowling et al., and Sogge–Stein.

Finally, we provide some applications of our new Strichartz estimates for orthonormal families of data to the theory of infinite systems of Hartree type, weighted velocity averaging lemmas for kinetic transport equations, and refined Strichartz estimates for data in Besov spaces.

As a result of field fringing, the capacitance of a parallel-plate capacitor differs from that predicted by the textbook formula. Using singular perturbations and conformal mapping techniques, we calculate the leading-order correction to the capacitance in the limit of large aspect ratio. We additionally obtain a comparable approximation for the electrostatic attraction between the plates.

Let $X$ be a space of homogeneous type and $L$ be a nonnegative self-adjoint operator on $L^{2}(X)$ satisfying Gaussian upper bounds on its heat kernels. In this paper, we develop the theory of weighted Besov spaces ${\dot{B}}_{p,q,w}^{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC},L}(X)$ and weighted Triebel–Lizorkin spaces ${\dot{F}}_{p,q,w}^{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC},L}(X)$ associated with the operator $L$ for the full range $0<p,q\leqslant \infty$, $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC}\in \mathbb{R}$ and $w$ being in the Muckenhoupt weight class $A_{\infty }$. Under rather weak assumptions on $L$ as stated above, we prove that our new spaces satisfy important features such as continuous characterizations in terms of square functions, atomic decompositions and the identifications with some well-known function spaces such as Hardy-type spaces and Sobolev-type spaces. One of the highlights of our result is the characterization of these spaces via noncompactly supported functional calculus. An important by-product of this characterization is the characterization via the heat kernel for the full range of indices. Moreover, with extra assumptions on the operator $L$, we prove that the new function spaces associated with $L$ coincide with the classical function spaces. Finally we apply our results to prove the boundedness of the fractional power of $L$, the spectral multiplier of $L$ in our new function spaces and the dispersive estimates of wave equations.

We prove certain L2(ℝn) bilinear estimates for Fourier extension operators associated to spheres and hyperboloids under the action of the k-plane transform. As the estimates are L2-based, they follow from bilinear identities: in particular, these are the analogues of a known identity for paraboloids, and may be seen as higher-dimensional versions of the classical L2(ℝ2)-bilinear identity for Fourier extension operators associated to curves in ℝ2.

For a complex function $F$ on $\mathbb{C}$, we study the associated composition operator $T_{F}(f):=F\circ f=F(f)$ on Wiener amalgam $W^{p,q}(\mathbb{R}^{d})\;(1\leqslant p<\infty ,1\leqslant q<2)$. We have shown $T_{F}$ maps $W^{p,1}(\mathbb{R}^{d})$ to $W^{p,q}(\mathbb{R}^{d})$ if and only if $F$ is real analytic on $\mathbb{R}^{2}$ and $F(0)=0$. Similar result is proved in the case of modulation spaces $M^{p,q}(\mathbb{R}^{d})$. In particular, this gives an affirmative answer to the open question proposed in Bhimani and Ratnakumar (J. Funct. Anal. 270(2) (2016), 621–648).

Let $(M^{n},g)$ be a Riemannian manifold without boundary. We study the amount of initial regularity required so that the solution to a free Schrödinger equation converges pointwise to its initial data. Assume the initial data is in $H^{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC}}(M)$. For hyperbolic space, the standard sphere, and the two-dimensional torus, we prove that $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC}>\frac{1}{2}$ is enough. For general compact manifolds, due to the lack of a local smoothing effect, it is hard to improve on the bound $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC}>1$ from interpolation. We managed to go below 1 for dimension ${\leqslant}$ 3. The more interesting thing is that, for a one-dimensional compact manifold, $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC}>\frac{1}{3}$ is sufficient.

We prove an equivalence between weighted Poincaré inequalities and the existence of weak solutions to a Neumann problem related to a degenerate $p$-Laplacian. The Poincaré inequalities are formulated in the context of degenerate Sobolev spaces defined in terms of a quadratic form, and the associated matrix is the source of the degeneracy in the $p$-Laplacian.
