Bertolt Brecht's play The Caucasian Chalk Circle was first published, not in German, but in English—in the Bentley version issued by the University of Minnesota Press in 1948. The Prologue was not used in the book and it is printed here for the first time in English. The rest of the play can be found in the paperback Parables for the Theatre (Evergreen Books).
