Thermal characterization of semi-transparent media: measurement of phononic diffusivity of glass and silica*
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 10 April 2003
Abstract
Materials such as glasses, insulated foams, polymers are semi-transparent. In order to measure the phononic diffusivity of such media – in which the heat transfer is both conductive and radiative – it is necessary to develop a complete methodology. The technique, we propose here, is an extension of the Flash method with the use of a semi-analytical combined model. It permits to determine the diffusivity of materials such as glass and silica for a large range of temperature (from 300 K to 700 K).
