The main properties of the 1.56-m astrometric reflector of Shanghai Observatory are described. Some principles of selecting program stars are presented. The experimental program that has been performed with the Zô-sè 40-cm refractor since 1980 is outlined. Accuracies which are expected to be obtained for new program parallaxes are discussed.
