Abstract

G. Muth et al., pH-dependent conformational flexibility within the ribosomal peptidyl transferase center, RNA 7: 1403–1415 (2001).

The wobble partner to A2450 was mislabeled in Figures 1 and 7 as C2501. The correct pairing partner is C2063. The arguments presented in the text (pp. 1411–1412) regarding the pH dependence of A-C pair formation are not affected by this change because 2063 is a C in all three ribosomes investigated and is >99% conserved across phylogeny. The C2063 O2 (not N3 as misstated on p. 1412) appears to form a hydrogen bond to the A2450 N1, which may be protonated at low pH.
