The comprehensive implementation of the care programme approach is described within a large Mental Health Unit serving two London boroughs. Methods used to introduce an incremental improvement in the care programme approach (CPA) practice and documentation are outlined together with an account of the development of a set of quality standards and a CPA annual audit system.
