This collection of rich, provocative essays heralds a new opportunity for the reinvigoration of political science. Our premise, and the premise of our essayists, is that the term “area studies” is a misnomer. The political scientists whose works have focused on specific world regions have yielded significant theoretical and conceptual contributions for the discipline, both in the past and in the present.
