The ecology of macroalgae in the Firth of Clyde*

Synopsis
The distribution of seaweeds in the Firth of Clyde is described. The patterns of algal distribution are discussed in relation to propagule dispersal and recruitment, and the physiological ecology of the plants. Particular attention is given to the influence of biotic factors: competition, grazing by invertebrates and the effects of man.
