Over recent years extremes of weather at traditional silage making time have made the manufacture of high quality forage difficult. Consequently a trial was run at the BOCM SILCOCK Development Unit, Barhill, evaluating a compound diet as a complete silage replacement. The analysis of the silage replacer nut (SRN) was 35g oil (OAH)/kg DM, 115g crude protein (CP)/kg DM, 279g crude fibre (CF)/kg DM and an ME of 9 MJ/kg DM. The diet contained 50% VITON-NIS (sodium hydroxide treated straw).
