Soya oil at an inclusion rate of 33 g/kg in a concentrate diet for growing-fattening bulls tended to increase the production of volatile fatty acids and the dry matter disappearance from nylon bags incubated in the rumen. It also slightly improved apparent digestibility of dry matter, organic matter and fiber and significantly increased the ether extract digestibility (Clinquart, Van Eenaeme, Istasse, Neirinck, Midy and Bienfait, 1991). It was therefore interesting to assess the effects of soya oil supplementation on animal performance. The linoleic acid content of soya oil is about 0.50. Such fat could be used to increase the unsaturated fatty acid proportion in order to produce a more dietetic fat.
