This presentation gives a brief overview of how the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA, or Agency) has fulfilled its mandated activities during the pandemic, considering: (1) host country relations; (2) meetings of IAEA policy making organs; (3) other meetings under the auspices of the Agency; and (4) IAEA nuclear verification work, for which the Agency is most well-known.
1 Subsequently, the meetings proceeded in all official languages through the use of the IT platform procured for this purpose.
2 The Amendment to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material (CPPNM) entered into force on May 8, 2016 and marked a major milestone in the development of the legal framework for nuclear security. This year marks the fifth anniversary of the entry into force of the Amendment to the CPPNM, and as a result the preparations for the review conference pursuant to Article 16.1 of the Amendment to the CPPNM are underway. One hundred twenty-five states have joined the Amendment thus far.
