* Deep Freeze should refer only to the plans and operations of the US Navy Antarctic Support Activity. The Scientific programme is separately designated USARP (United States Antarctic Research Programme) followed by the same number as the DEEP FREEZE operation withwhich it is coincident.
The time span in both cases begins with the arrival of the first relief aircraft or ship and continues until the arrival of the first outsider in the following spring.
