Relative Humanity: Identity, Rights, and Ethics—Israel as a Case Study

Published online by Cambridge University Press:  23 October 2020

Extract

RULA, A PALESTINIAN WOMAN, WAS IN THE last stages of labor. Her husband, Daoud, could not convince the soldiers at an Israeli military roadblock to let them through to meet the ambulance that was held up on the other side. After a long wait, Rula could no longer hold it. She started screaming in pain, to the total apathy of the soldiers.
