These comments were read on May 2, 1963 at the annual meeting of the Western Division of the American Philosophical Association at Columbus, Ohio. They were directed at Scriven's paper, “An Essential Unpredictability in Human Behavior,” which is to be published in Science in Psychology (edited by E. Nagel and B. Wohlman). I have very briefly abstracted his main argument in order to make my remarks intelligible without familiarity with his paper.
