The diffusion and solubility of Au and Pb in α-Zr are measured in the temperature ranges of 773-973 K and 773-1023 K, respectively, using the Rutherford backscattering technique. Au and Pb have been implanted in samples of Zr having different amounts of Fe as impurity. The results indicate that both solutes follow a substitutional extrinsic diffusion process enhanced by the fast diffusing Fe impurity, and that the solid solubility of Au and Pb in Zr is of ≈lat% in the measured range of temperature.
