The second BIALL Law Firm Library Survey was launched in December 2019. The aim of the survey is to understand standard practice across the law firm library sector and to allow firms to benchmark certain aspects of the library's service against industry averages. This article contains a summary of the results with comparisons, where possible, to results from the previous survey (2015/16). The full survey results can be found on the BIALL website.
3 The working group members were: Clive Morris (who also analysed and presented the results), Karen Brown (BIALL President Elect), Claire Greening (Global Head of Library and Knowledge Services at Withers LLP), and Helen Gwinn (Legal Information Manager at Blake Morgan).
4 The Full Time Equivalent (FTE) rate is used to compare part-time workers' hours against those working full-time. The standardised figure is 1.0, which refers to a full-time worker. 0.5 refers to an employee that works half of full-time hours.
5 The ‘mean’ is calculated by adding by together all of the budget figures and dividing by the number of firms. The ‘median’ is the middle value when the budget figures are ranked in order of size.
