If there is such a thing as mega-lawyering, we might as well introduce the phenomenon of mega-reviewing. As my text will show, Max Weber's work looms large over the four books reviewed. If his demands for social scientists have inspired the views expressed here, the demands of the Protestant Ethic have much to do with the fact that the job got done.
