1 When shall we see an end to this rag-bag of real words, copyists' errors, mistranslations, and much sheer nonsense, being quoted as an authority?
2 Mention of this permits me to drag in, and I hope lay, a ghost-word for which I can claim the doubtful honour of ancestry. In a duplicated list of Sulaimānī Kurdish words I once included, to exhibit the development of /yō > wē/, the word tānturwēt (my error for tan-) “tincture of iodine” (< Tk. tentürdiyot < Fr. teinture d'iode). Kurdoev now has tānturwēt defined as “(1) tint; (2) smack; (3) tinge”, in effect all the meanings of “tincture” but the right one. Future methodological Kurdologists please note.
