The expression of the accomplished by the old durative was perhaps a development in the desert in the second millennium, which in Canaan was superposed upon the older system. I do not know that that the Aramaic-Hebrew-Arabic tense values can be found at all in the earliest sources for non-Akkadian Semitic—“ Amorite ” nom. prop., Cappadocian, Amarna glosses. It is a pity that these earliest sources are practically ignored by M. Cohen.
