1 Dr. Forrer first proposed kanesisch—from the city Kaneš (now rather pronounced Kanis)—as a name for the ordinary language of Boghazkoi. It is not quite certain that the name is justified, but it seems right, anyway, to abandon “Hittite” (as a linguistic term) to the language so named in the texts. A no less violent change of vocabulary has been achieved in the case of “Akkadian”.
