page 787 note 1 Wâtar itself is found in “Luvian ” under the form of uidanza, and uidar appears by the side of wâtar in the Official Hittite texts. It is one of the few Indo-European loan-words discoverable in “ Luvian ”. In Official Hittite the Indo-European suffix has been assimilated to the native suffix -tar.
